Your Fire Service Needs You

12th April 2010

Could you give some of your free time to serve your community as a Part time or “On Call” Fire fighter? If so than North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service needs to hear from you, especially if you live or work near Easingwold.

If you are interested in finding out more, a special awareness event is being held at Easingwold Fire Station on Wednesday 21st April 2010 from 4.00p.m. until 8.00p.m.

The organiser of the event, Watch Manager Ian Perkins, himself an “On Call” fire-fighter from Stokesley, explains;

“Our fire service serves the communities of the largest county in England with much of it relying on part time, or “on-call” fire fighters to respond to incidents when needed. These dedicated people have regular day time jobs and carry a bleeper that alerts them when they need to get to the fire station to answer an emergency call. The job is varied and exciting and I hope that we can attract all members of the community. Women and members of other under represented groups will be especially welcome at the event”.

On hand to give advice and information at the event will be serving fire fighters who can answer questions you may have, as well as specialists who can answer questions on a variety of issues from how long it will take to train, payment information and equal opportunities issues.

Ian Perkins continues; “I would also like to invite employers from the local area to come along and see what we do as it is vital that they see the benefits of having a fire fighter working for them and we can discuss ways that we can work together to keep their communities and work places safe”.

For more information please call Ian Perkins on 07771 843 972 or the Personnel section at NYFRS Headquarters on 01609 788631.
