Vehicle Workshop Fire Northallerton

16th January 2019

Fire crews were called at 18:46 to reports of a building on fire on Brompton Road in Northallerton.

On their arrival crews discovered a building used as a vehicle workshop well alight and requested further fire engines attend. This includes an aerial ladder platform from Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.

Other agencies are also in attendance including North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire County Council Resilience and Emergencies Unit.

Nearby properties including Asda and the Marks and Spencer food hall were evacuated as a precaution and a cordon put in place around the incident scene. There are no reports of any injuries.

Crews are working hard to try and contain the fire and stop it spreading to other buildings. They have ground monitors in use to help tackle the fire.

Agencies are likely to remain at the scene for some time and we would ask people to avoid the area and not drive past road closed signs.

Fire crews will remain at the incident overnight to monitor the scene.

Update 10:10pm

The incident is now being scaled down and fire crews will start to leave the scene shortly. A number of fire crews will remain at the incident overnight to monitor the scene.

17th Jan 11am Update

Please be aware that the cordon we have in place is likely to remain for most of today whilst we ensure that the cylinders involved are fully cooled. This means that the road closures will also remain in place.

If you are heading to the Friarage Hospital please note that access is via Bullamore Road.

Please don't be tempted to drive past the road closed signs, they are there for your safety and the safety of our staff.

17th Jan 2pm Update

Fire crews remain at the scene of the vehicle workshop fire in Northallerton, a structural engineer has been requested to check on the stability of the remaining building.

The cordon and road closures are likely to remain in place until at least 7pm this evening, whilst we ensure the cylinders involved are fully cooled.

19th February 2019

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, and it is therefore not being treated as suspicious.
