Tanya's Ladder Climb for Freddie

12th June 2019

On Saturday 22nd June 2019 at Northallerton Town Hall and Square firefighters from Northallerton and Richmond fire station will be climbing the height of Mount Everest to raise money for two amazing charities.

The crews originally wanted to raise money to support one of our own firefighters, Tanya, who has recently undergone a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. She is also going through a course of chemotherapy.

Along with her wife she has decided to run a marathon in Death Valley this December. The trip has already been paid for but they have set a fundraising target of £5,000 in aid of South Tees Hospital Charity and The Fire Fighters charity.

The crews wanted to support Tanya and also a little boy called Freddie who was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma at the age of just two.

Tanya already felt like she had already raised enough money for her marathon and charities and that the money should go to Freddie’s Fight. Tanya knows the illness and has twin boys. She completely appreciates what Freddie may be going through and as a child is mind blowing that he does so day to day.

So the suggestion was made that the event be held in her name instead.

Mount Everest is 8848 metres high. The ladder the crews will be climbing is 4 metres high. They will have to climb the ladder some 2212 times!

The proceeds will be split between Freddie's Fight and The Fire Fighters Charity, so please come along on the day to support the crews, and if you can spare a few pounds for the collection buckets it would be greatly appreciated.
