North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Smashes Target for Charity

16th April 2009

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has raised a fantastic amount of money for The Fire Fighters Charity over the past year. Our target was to raise £10,000 and we have managed to raise over £40,000. This has meant we have topped our regional group (made up of ourselves, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service) for the first time ever.

The money has been raised by various events that North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service staff have given up their own time to take part in, including: a Carol Concert, Coast Way Round motorbike trip undertaken by two firefighters , a 200 mile bike ride undertaken by staff from Knaresborough Fire Station, the New York Marathon, and a Football tournament in York alongside other events.
The Fire Fighters Charity Chairman for North Yorkshire Chris Anderson said “This is an excellent achievement and I would like to thank all members of staff who have supported the charity and helped raise this money. Particular credit goes to Firefighter Bruce Reid who has worked tirelessly in support of the charity. ”

The Fire Fighters Charity supports fire fighters during their times of need, and assists over 13,500 individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services. It costs over £9 million every year to keep the Charity running, and being self financing, they are reliant upon donations from the general public and the fire community.
