Incident Summary Night Shift 21st February 2020




In order to ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names, for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred:


YorkTime of call 17:34


Crews from York, Acomb and Huntington responded to reports of an oven fire in a residential property. On arrival of crews the fire was out, crews carried out an inspection only. 




YorkTime of call 17:35


Crew from Huntington responded to a report of a beer barrel on the roof of a garage that was in danger of falling onto the pavement. Crews used crew power to remove the barrel.




Skipton  Time of call 20:01


Crew from Skipton responded to a report of water flooding into the basement of a property through the drains. Crews pumped the water from the property using a light portable pump.




Bentham  Time of call 20:30


Crews from Bentham and Settle responded to a report of 2 horses stuck in floodwater. Crews led the horses to safety and located a third horse that was also believed to have been stuck in the flood water.




Richmond  Time of call 20:52


Crews from Richmond and Colburn responded to a report of a possible residential fire. Crews gained entry to the property and found a pan had been left unattended. Crews used 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet and a positive pressure ventilation fan.




Settle  Time of call 21:15


Crews from Grassington, Settle and Ripon responded to reports of a village being cut off by flood water.




Settle  Time of call 22:20


Crew from Bentham responded to a report of properties being affected by flooding. Crews used sand bags to divert as much water away from the properties as possible and pumped out from one property. Crews also assisted an elderly couple move from an affected property to an unaffected property. Crews used a light portable pump and crew power.




Settle  Time of call 22:45


Crew from Skipton responded to a report of 4 people stuck in a car in floodwater. Crews removed the car and the occupants from the floodwater to a safe place.




Skipton  Time of call 23:41


Crew from Skipton responded to a report of water entering a property via drains into a basement. Crews used an ejector pump to pump the water out of the property.




Settle  Time of call 23:44


Crew from Settle responded to a report of flooding inside a residential property. Crews checked the safety of all residents and gave advice. Crews placed sand bags on the river side of the worst affected property.




Settle  Time of call 02:30


Crew from Settle responded to a report of 2 properties being affected by flood water. Crews used sand bags to divert water away from property.




York  Time of call 02:36


Crews from York, Acomb, Huntington and Selby responded to a report of a male in the River Foss. Police had secured the male using a life ring prior to Fire Brigade arrival. Crews rescued the male using a 9m ladder and lines. The male was left in the hands of the police.




Catterick – Time of call 04:29


Crews from Richmond and Catterick used ladders and working at height equipment to remove tarpaulin that had become loose in the wind and was causing damage to property.




Glusburn – Time of call 06:05


A crew from Skipton is assisting with a flooded basement, a light portable pump is in use.
