Incident Summary – Day Shift Wednesday 11th July

In order to ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names, for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.


Boat fire – Broad Lane, Nether Poppleton

Time of call: 0841 hours

A crew from York has dealt with an abandoned 5m long fibre glass boat on fire, The boat was totally destroyed. Crew used 1 hosereel jet. The cause is deliberate.


Dangerous structure – Stainforth Road, Settle

Time of call: 0857 hours

A crew from Settle has been called to downed electricity cables at a commercial property after they were struck by a lorry. Crew stood by until arrival of electricity board. Paramedics attended and provided precautionary check up to 1 male.


False alarm – Wains Road, York

Time of call: 0902 hours

A crew from Acomb has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a residential property. This was a false alarm due to cooking fumes.


Barn fire – Preston under Scar

Time of call: 0941 hours

Crews from Leyburn, Richmond, Reeth and Northallerton have tackled a fire in an agricultural barn containing bales of hay and fertiliser. 2 main jets, hosereel jets and breathing apparatus used. Farmer assisting to remove contents of barn whilst crews damp down and turn over.



False alarm – Clarence Street, York

Time of call: 1111 hours

A crew from York has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to a fault on the system.


False alarm – West Bolton Moor, Carperby

Time of call: 1126 hours

A crew from Hawes has investigated reports of smoke on the moors. A full search of the area was carried out but no smoke located.


Sheep rescue – River Aire, Birkin

Time of call: 1147 hours

A crew from Selby have used the rescue boat to rescue a sheep which had fallen in the river.  Crew used the boat to guide the sheep to the river bank so it could return to it’s field unharmed.


Road traffic collision – A61, Ripon bypass

Time of call: 1210 hours

Crews from Ripon have dealt with a 2 vehicle road traffic collision involving a Vauxhall Corsa and a Toyota Rav4. Female driver (90’s) of Corsa was trapped in car. Released by fire crew and taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries. Male driver (40’s) of Rav was not trapped but has been taken to hospital with minor injuries. Crew used hydraulic cutting equipment and small tools.


False alarm – Hutton Sessay

Time of call: 1342 hours

A crew from Thirsk has been called to reports of wheel on fire on a transit style van. This was a false alarm however crew used a hose reel and thermal imaging camera to cool down overheated brakes.


False alarm – Ganton

Time of call: 1415 hours

A crew from Sherburn has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to a member of staff accidentally activating the break glass point.


Forest fire – Guisburn Forest, Tosside

Time of call: 1521 hours

A crew from Settle has been called to deal with a fire in forestry involving an area of moss measuring approx. 3m by 2m. They are currently using 1 hosereel to damp down and electricity board have been requested to deal with some exposed cables.



Road traffic collision – Prospect Hill, Whitby

Time of call: 1535 hours

A crew from Whitby has been called to a 3 vehicle road traffic collision. No persons were trapped however 1 female was assisted from the vehicle due to damage to the drivers door preventing her from getting out.  2 females and 2 young boys have been taken to hospital with minor injuries for a precautionary check up.


Wood pile fire – Faceby Road, Carlton in Cleveland

Time of call: 1640 hours

A crew from Stokesley has been mobilised to a wood pile on fire in the open measuring approx. 10m by 10m. Crew are using 2 hosereels.
