Incident Summary – Tuesday Dayshift, 23rd of July 2024

Time: 09:48  Location: off Otley Road, Harrogate

Crews from Harrogate attended an address following reports of a smoke alarm sounding within a residential property. Upon arrival it was discovered that this was a false alarm due to cooking fumes. Crews gave safety advice and reassurance to the occupier.

Time: 10:19  Location:  off Thirsk Road, Northallerton

Northallerton crews responded to the activation of an automatic fire alarm. This was an accidental activation of a glass break point. Crews advised the responsible person on scene to consider relocating the break point avoid future accidents.

Time: 11:05  Location: land north of Helmsley

Crews from Helmsley, Pickering and Malton attended a tractor fire following multiple calls from members of public who could see large amounts of black smoke and hear loud bangs coming from the area. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet, with the tractor sustaining 100% fire damage. A thermal image camera was also used to check for hot spots, and crews remained on scene to dampen down the area to stop any potential fire spread. The cause was believed to be an electrical fault.

Time: 12:33  Location: City Centre, York

Acomb crews were asked to attend a premises with their Aerial Ladder Platform to assist with removing a loose roof tile that was hanging dangerously over a pedestrian walkway. Crews removed the tile and made the area safe for members of the public.

Time: 13:44  Location: off Foreshore Road, Scarborough

A crew from Scarborough responded to a report of thick smoke sighted from the harbour. This was a false alarm with good intentions from the caller. The heavy smoke was coming from a chimney. Crews advised the occupants at the premises not to burn any more materials on the fire, and to have the chimney swept.
