Incident Summary – Sunday Night shift, 30th June 2024

To ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.

Time: 17:23  Location: Palace Road, Ripon

A crew from Ripon assisted a family who were locked outside of their home and needed access to medication. Crews gained access using small tools only.

Time: 17:35  Location: Hawthorn Grove, York

A crew from York responded to three people trapped inside a lift. Crews used a lift key to gain access to the lift and release the occupants inside.

Time: 17:35   Location: Near North Marine Road, Scarborough

Crews from Scarbrough, Whitby and Filey all responded to smoke reported inside a residential flat. Crews found heavy logging inside the flat. This was believed to had been caused by cooking left unattended. Crews entered the building wearing breathing apparatus equipment and extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet. Crews ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation fan and will return to the property at a later date to complete a home fire safety visit.

Time: 18:45  Location: Woodfield Road, Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate assisted ambulance with the extrication of a elderly occupant from their residential property. Crew power was used to lift the occupant into the ambulance alongside ambulance staff.

Time: 19:12  Location: Near Stokesley

A crew from Danby responded to rubbish and cylinders on fire. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet and monitored the cylinders with a thermal imagining camera.

Time: 19:22  Location: Near Summerbridge

Both crews from Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon responded to a report of a fire on the first floor of a residential property. Crews located a tumble dryer on fire in the bedroom of the property that had burnt through the roof of the terraced property. Crews entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire using hose reel jets. Crews then checked for further fire spread in the loft space of both the affected property and neighbouring properties using a thermal imaging camera and triple exterior ladders.  The first floor of the affected property suffered 100% fire damage and the ground floor of the property sustained moderate fire damage. Crews ventilated the property to clear smoke logging.

Time: 19:30  Location: Byram, Near Selby

A crew from Selby responded to a report of youths setting a fire in a wooded area. Crews located a small fire consisting of rubbish and wood that they extinguished using a knapsack sprayer. The incident was left in the hands of the police.

Time: 19:35  Location: Millgate, Selby 

A crew from York responded to a report of an alarm activation at a residential property. This was a false alarm due to a release of insecticide in the property. Advice was given to responsible persons.

Time: 19:47  Location: Brewery Lane, Skipton 

A crew from Skipton responded to a report of an alarm activation at a residential property. This was a false alarm due to cooking fumes.

Time: 21:37  Location: Bawtry Road, Selby 

Crews from Selby and York responded to a report of a loud bang at a commercial site. Crews carried out a thorough investigation and found the cause to be a fire within a drying system. The fire had self extinguished on the arrival of fire crews. A fixed drencher system was put in place by on site staff, under the supervision of fire crews, to extinguish the remaining embers. Crews carried out a thorough inspection of all relevant areas with on site staff using a thermal imaging camera. The incident was left with staff.

Time: 22:14  Location: Stoney Haggs Road, Scarborough

A crew from Scarborough responded to a report of a fire seen in the garden of a residential property. Crews found this to be controlled burning under supervision. Advice was given to the occupier.

Time: 01:02  Location: Moulton

A crew from Richmond responded to a report of a fire in the open. Crews located a caravan well alight. Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down the area using 1 hose reel jet.

Time: 06:27  Location: A168, Boroughbridge

A crew from Ripon responded to a fire which started inside the engine of a vehicle. Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down using 1 hose reel jet and 1 breathing apparatus. The incident was left with the vehicle owner and Highways Agency.
