Incident Summary – Wednesday Nightshift, 12th June 2024

Time: 17:17   Location: Near Bellerby, Leyburn

A crew from Richmond responded to stubble on fire in a field. The fire damaged 50m x 50m of land. This was believed to had been caused by a previous controlled burn left unattended. Crews used two knapsack sprayers to extinguish the fire alongside wildfire tools.

Time: 17:29  Location: Thirsk

Crews from Thirsk and Northallerton responded to a wooden door frame outside domestic flats smouldering after a cigarette had been thrown outside from a window above causing it to set alight. The cause of the fire was accidental but the door frame sustained moderate fire damage. Crews used knapsack sprayers to extinguish the fire. Crews also used a triple exterior ladder and small tools at this incident.

Time: 17:35  Location: Railway Street, Malton

A crew from Malton responded to a male who had fallen down an embankment near the river. Crew power was used to assist the male back to safe location. The male was left in the care of paramedics on scene.

Time: 20:55  Location: Near Abbots Road, Selby

A crew from Selby responded to a pile of rubbish on fire. The cause of this was deliberate and crews used knapsack sprayers and spades to extinguish the fire. The incident was left in the hands of Police.

Time: 23:42  Location: Near Boroughbridge

A crew from Boroughbridge assisted ambulance with a difficult extrication of a casualty from their property. Crews used crew power alongside the evacuation chair paramedics already had in place prior to fire crews arrival. Crews carried the casualty to the ambulance ready for transport to hospital. A home fire risk check is being arranged with the occupant at a later date.

Time: 02:58  Location: Gristhwaite Lane, Topcliffe

Following a call from Traffic Police who were in the area, Thirsk and Ripon crews responded to a fire in the open which was found to consist mostly of wooden potato pallets. Hose reels used to extinguish.

Crews from York, Harrogate, Easingwold, York and Skipton also responded to activated fire alarms inside commercial and residential buildings. After an investigation from our crews, these were all confirmed false alarms.
