Incident Summary – Nightshift, 9th of May 2024

To ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred. 

 

Time: 17:11     Location: Doddsworth Avenue, York

A crew from York gained entry to a domestic property to assist Police with a welfare check on the occupant. Crews used a gain kit only.

Time: 18:04     Location: B1257, Helmsley 

Crews from Helmsley and Thirsk responded to a road traffic collision involving a car and motorbike. Crews provided scene safety and gave initial first aid to the motorcyclist before handing over to air ambulance staff who completed a full medical assessment. The incident was left in the hands of police who closed the road.

Time: 18:48     Location: B1222, Tadcaster

One of our fire officers assisted a motorcyclist who had slipped on gravel and hit the grass verge of a road. The motorcyclist refused an ambulance and our officer accompanied her until she could be left in the care of a nearby friend.

Time: 19:29    Location: Near A64, Tadcaster

A crew from Tadcaster responded to fire sighted in a wooded area. On arrival crews discovered this to be a controlled burn under the supervision of a responsible person. Crews gave advice.

Time: 21:32     Location: Near A170, Scarborough

Both crews from Scarborough responded to a large fire in a wooded area well alight which was spreading to nearby hedges. This was believed to had been started deliberately. Crews extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets with one appliance used to collect and ferry water from a nearby hydrant. Crews also used ceiling hooks to expose hot spots and lighting equipment to enhance working capabilities.

Time: 21:42     Location: Station Parade, Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate responded to an activated fire alarm inside a residential building. This was caused by a faulty detector and was a false alarm. Crews gave advice to contact landlord.

Time: 22:07      Location: Eastfield, Scarborough

A crew from Sherburn responded to an activated fire alarm inside a commercial building. This was a false alarm.

Time: 22:26     Location: Near A59, Outside York

A crew from Acomb responded to an resident stuck inside a lift of a residential building. The occupant was out prior to crews arrival. Crews used crew power to lift and assist a further two residents upstairs to their rooms due to the broken lift. Crews gave advice to the responsible person regarding the lift issue.

Time:  22:32    Location: Near Thirsk Road, Northeallerton

A crew from Northallerton responded to a wheelie bin on fire. This was believed to had been set deliberately. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet. Crews also used a thermal imaging camera to identify hotspots for damping down.

Time:  22:34    Location: Clapgate Bank, Near Richmond

A crew form Richmond were called to a fire in the open on grassland. The fire was out prior to crews arrival and extinguished by nearby rangers.

Time: 22:35     Location: Main Street, Cayton

A crew from Sherburn gained entry to a property for ambulance staff to complete a welfare check. Crews used hydraulic cutters and a door enforcer to gain entry to find no occupant present. The incident was left in the hands of police who secured the property.

Time: 00:06     Location: Eastfield, Scarborough

A crew from Sherburn responded to an activated fire alarm inside a commercial building. This was a false alarm.

Time: 00:43      Location: Skipton

A crew from Skipton and Grassington alongside Skiptons technical water rescue team responded to reports of a young adult in the water. Crews used a thermal imaging camera to inspect the water but Police were able to locate the young adult in a safe location.

Time: 05:21     Location: Cold Bath Road, Harrogate

The Harrogate crew responded to an activated fire alarm inside a commercial building. This was a false alarm due to a fault on the system, no alarm was activating.
