Incident Summary – Dayshift, 8th of May 2024

To ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred. 

 

Time: 08:01     Location: Beckfield Lane, Acomb

A crew from Acomb assisted ambulance staff with the movement of an occupant in their home to a safe position. Crews used a casualty sheet and left the patient in the care of the paramedics.

Time:  09:20    Location: Cold Bath Road, Harrogate 

A crew from Harrogate responded to an activated fire alarm inside a residential building. This was caused by steam from the shower and confirmed a false alarm.

Time: 11:39     Location: Near South Parade, Northallerton

A crew from Northallerton responded to reports of a washing machine on fire in a domestic property. After inspection there was no sign of fire or smoke and it was believed to be a faulty appliance. Crews carried out a home fire safety check with the occupant.

Time:  11:47    Location: Bower Road, Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate responded to an infant accidentally locked inside of a car. Crews were able to retrieve the spare vehicle key from the owners property close by and unlocked the car to avoid breaking the glass.

Time: 12:47      Location: Knaresborough

Crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough responded to a vehicle impacting a building. Fire crews stabilised the vehicle using chocks and lifted both elderly casualties out of the vehicle using crew power. Both the driver and passenger were left in the care of paramedics and Police remained on scene until the building could be inspected by a engineer.

Time: 13:49     Location: Near Nunnery Lane, York

A crew from York responded to an activated fire alarm inside a commercial building. This alarm was activated by a refrigerator gas leak and advice was given to staff to contact a engineers.

Time:  16:00    Location: Middleham

Crews from Richmond and Ripon responded to reports of a fire outside a domestic property burning the front door. This was caused by a disposable BBQ that was left unattended in the outside bin. The neighbour had extinguished the fire prior to crews arrival using a garden hose. Crews carried out a thermal inspection using a thermal imagining camera and used small tools to remove any further hotspots. Crews gave advice to the occupants.

Time: 16:15     Location: Near Halfpenny Lane, Kanresborough

A crew from Knaresborough responded to an activated smoke alarm inside a domestic property. This was caused by a faulty detector and was a false alarm.

Time:  16:24    Location: Near Wetherby

A crew from Harrogate and an appliance from Wetherby responded to reports of electrical lines touching trees which had started to smoulder. On arrival there was no sign of fire and Power Grid were informed of the incident and advised to have the trees cut back.

Time:  16:28    Location: Ripon

When on standby in Ripon, a crew from Boroughbridge assisted a woman and her dog from the middle of a river after they became stuck. The crews used swift water rescue gear to remove the casualty and her dog safely.
