Incident Summary – Dayshift, 4th of May 2024

Time:  09:23     Location: Heslington Road

A crew from York responded to an activated smoke alarm inside a residential building. This was a false alarm caused by cooking fumes.

Time: 09:23     Location: A1(M) Southbound, Bedale

Crews from Bedale, Northallerton and Ripon responded to a car well alight. Crews used breathing apparatus equipment to safely extinguish the fire using a hose reel jet. A thermal camera was also used to identify hot spots and monitor the engine temperature whilst water was applied. Crews also administered oxygen therapy to the driver who suffered smoke inhalation as a precaution until ambulance staff were able to medically assess them. The incident was left in the hands of highways who arranged recovery of the vehicle.

A crew from Whitby assisted ambulance staff with the extrication of an occupant from their home into the ambulance.

Time:  10:21    Location: Nunnery Lane, York

A crew from York responded to an activated smoke alarm inside a residential building. This was a false alarm caused by the deliberate activation of a call point.

Time:  13:26    Location: A19, Selby

A crew from York responded to a caravan with a overheated axle that needed cooling. Crews cooled the axle with a bucket of water and carried out a thermal inspection using a thermal imaging camera. The incident was left in the hands of police.

Time: 13:47     Location: Derwent Way, York

A crew from York responded to an activated fire alarm inside a residential building. This was caused by a fault on the system and was a false alarm.

Time: 14:55      Location: Belmont Street, Skipton

A crew from Skipton responded to a elderly female who had fallen onto the buffer section of a train track. Crews used small tools to remove a fence to gain access and assist the casualty to safety. Crews administered first aid before leaving the casualty in the care of staff who arranged transport to hospital.

Time: 15:14      Location: Fulford Road, York

A crew from York responded to an activated smoke alarm inside a domestic property. This was caused by cooking fumes and was a false alarm. Advice was given to the occupant.

Time:   15:14    Location: Westborough, Scarborough

A crew from Scarborough responded to two people stuck inside a lift of a commercial building. Crews opened the lift using a lift key to release the occupants.

Time: 15:31      Location: Near B1217, Tadcaster

A crew from Tadcaster responded to reports of a fire spotted in a wooded area. On arrival crews found no sign of fire but carried out an investigation of the area. Crews liaised with nearby land owners who also confirmed there was no sign of fire.

Time: 16:40      Location: Leeds Road, Selby 

A crew from Selby responded to an activated fire alarm in a residential building. This was caused by cooking fumes and was a false alarm.
