Incident Summary – Day Shift Monday 22nd April

Time: 08:20 Location: Park Street, Selby

Selby fire crew attended a property after a female member of staff called Fire Control. Upon arriving at work she had found the fire alarm activating and what she thought was a smell of smoke in the property. After investigating thoroughly the crew found the alarm had activated due to a fault on the system and there was no smoke.

Time: 08:49 Location: Scarborough Road, Rillington

Fire Control received numerous calls this morning to reports of a HGV with a wheel on fire. The lorry was carrying a load of potatoes. The fire affecting the wheel became detached from the vehicle and also caused fire damage to the air suspension tank and axle. Dry powder extinguishers used prior to fire service arrival by members of the public. Crew used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and advice was given to owner of HGV. The cause of the fire is thought to have been overheated bearings.

Time: 11:10 Location: Station Avenue Area of Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate assisted our colleagues int eh Police after reports that a female had fallen in a property in the early hours of this morning. A nursing team were on scene upon our arrival and our crew assisted them in gaining entry to the property using small tools. The female was left in hands of carers and family member.

Time: 13:21 Location: Mechantgate Gate, York

York fire crew attended reports of a small fire in the open affecting rubbish. Upon arrival they found this to be contained within an outbuilding affecting a commercial wheelie bin. the fire damage was confined to the bin and contents and the cause if thought to have been due to carelessly discarded smoking materials. The crew used 1 hose reel to extinguish the fire.

Time: 15:22 Location: Buckden

Our fire crew from Grassington attended reports of a chimney fire at a property in Buckden. Crews are still on scene where they’re using a chimney kit, thermal imaging camera and ladders to investigate. They also have 2 hose reels in use and expect to be delayed a further hour dealing with the incident.

Time: 16:00 Location: Thirlby, Thirsk

Thirsk and Northallerton crews were sent to a property after reports were of a hob on fire inside. The fire involved a dog lead which had been left on the hob and it’s though the dog had accidentally switched the hob on. This then spread to the kettle and extractor fan. The fire was out upon our arrival and the crew inspected and ventilated the premises. The fire caused only minimal damage to items mentioned and the crew used a thermal imaging camera and positive pressure ventilation fan to ventilate.
