Have a Go Day at Summerbridge Fire Station

Published 7th May 2019

Are you interested in becoming an on-call firefighter?

An on-call firefighter is someone who responds to a range of fire and rescue service incidents and emergency calls, provides community safety advice and acts as an ambassador for the fire and rescue service in their local community. On-call firefighters receive payment for their time, which includes training, attending incidents and carrying out community safety work.

We’re holding a ‘Have a Go Day’ at Summerbridge fire station on the 18th May, which anyone can call into to find out more about the role.

The day will run 10am until 3pm and you can pop in between those times to find out more about what the role of an on-call firefighter involves, find out more about the fitness tests and even have a go at some of them.

To be an on-call firefighter, you must:

  • Have a strong desire to support the local community.
  • Be enthusiastic about working as part of a team.
  • Have a reasonable level of personal fitness.
  • Live or/and work within 4 minutes of your local fire station.

On-call firefighters are an integral part of our service and community. We are keen to encourage anyone with the right skills to find out about what they can offer us – and in return, what we can offer you, so if you think this might be of interest please pop into Summerbridge fire station on the 18th May or have a look on our website: https://www.northyorksfire.gov.uk/working-for-us/vacancies_operational_uniformed_roles/retained_on_call_firefighter

We’re looking for on-call firefighters for Ripon, Masham, Boroughbridge, Grassington and most on-call (retained) fire stations across the county. We’re also looking for volunteer firefighters for Lofthouse fire station and you can also find out more about that role at the ‘Have A Go Day’.
