Control Room Charity Challenge

Published 3rd Dec 2021

Our emergency control room staff, firefighters and other staff are collectively cycling, walking or running a total of 471 miles during the week of 6th December to raise money for two charities.

Those who have signed up for the challenge have been allocated an hour-long slot to cover as much distance as possible, logging their miles with the event organisers, from the control room.

The distance, 471 miles, is equivalent to the distance between our control room in Northallerton and the control room for Cornwall Fire Service in Tolvaddon. Since the summer of 2016, both services have been able to receive and dispatch resources on behalf of each other, during busy periods which is why this distance was chosen.

Initially the challenge was to be held in the control room using an exercise bike but with the recent advice around COVID-19 changing, those involved in the challenge, apart from control room staff, are being asked to complete their time either at home, outside or in the station gym.

The challenge will raise money for both The Fire Fighters Charity and Special Effect.  Find out more about these below.

The challenge will take place between Monday, 6 December and Friday, 10 December. Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on the challenge throughout the week!

We’d love for people to make donations to support those taking part and help two great charities.
