Whirlpool Washing Machines Recalled

Published 14th Jan 2020

Whirlpool has recalled a number of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines made between 2014 and 2018.

The washing machines pose a fire risk due to a fault with the door lock. If you have a Hotpoint or Indesit machine we urge people to contact Whirlpool to check if their machine is affected.

Even if you have not owned your machine from new you must check it does not pose a fire risk. Second hand machines will be repaired or replaced by Whirlpool.

Customers can call Whirlpool on 0800 316 1442 or use their online model checker tool www.washingmachinerecall.whirlpool.co.uk/ You will need the model and the serial number of your machine. They can be found either in the recess of the door or on the back of washing machine.

If you have an affected model contact Whirlpool on their freephone number to register the product, this can be done 7 days a week.

We would advise you to unplug and not use the machine until it has been repaired or replaced.

We also reiterate our advice that appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers should only be used when the household is awake and will be able to respond in the event of an incident.

Appliances whether bought new or second hand should be registered with manufacturers so customers can be made aware of safety information or recalls. Visit https://www.registermyappliance.org.uk/

Make sure you have working smoke alarms installed in your home and you have clear escape routes.
