A message from the Service

You may see less of our firefighters out and about over the next few weeks, as we have taken the decision to restrict some of the prevention and protection work that our operational staff do. We’ve done this to minimise contact with the public and reduce the risk of spreading Coronavirus. Where possible the work will be carried out by our community safety officers, but we’ll risk assess each case to make sure firefighters are still involved when possible. These steps will help us maintain our ability to respond emergencies by reducing the risk of firefighters catching the virus and needing to self isolate.

While we’ll change the way we carry out prevention and protection activities we continue to respond to incidents, so in an emergency please continue to dial 999.

There’s also some measure you can take to help us, help you:

• Firstly you can help reduce the spread of the virus by following the government guidance – wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water, use hand sanitisers and cough into a tissue or your elbow.
• Make sure you have smoke alarms fitted and that they work. • Take extra care in the kitchen, where it’s easy to get distracted. Don’t leave pans unattended and keep tea towels and clothes away from hobs and grills.

• Check if elderly friends, family and neighbours are ok by calling or messaging them

Safety Information Broadcast Video

We did a live safety information broadcast on the 1st April, it included advice on fire safety at home, fire safety for businesses, how we can be prepared for emergencies and mental wellbeing.
