Role: Crew Manager – Richmond

Applications are invited for the post of Crew Manager.  Although based at Richmond the contract of employment will require you to work in any post appropriate to your role at such other place of employment in the Authority's services as may be required. 

The post is conditioned to the Richmond Self Roster duty system.

The starting salary will be £33,187 which is Crew Manager competent rate of pay.

Rent Allowance, at a rate of £520 per annum, is payable only if the appointed employee has continuous operational service (under grey book conditions) before 1st February 1999.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a base at Richmond in order to respond to the fire station and be mobile to an incident within a maximum of four minutes of being alerted and will be required to provide accommodation within a geographical area notified by the Chief Fire Officer from which to perform standby/call out duties. (No accommodation on station will be available to personnel who cannot provide their own accommodation within the 4 minute or 1 mile response time).

You will attend, as part of an on-duty crew, up to four exercises per year.  These will normally be held in the evening following a day shift.  Annual leave which would preclude you from attending will not be approved unless, in exceptional circumstances, dispensation is granted by your Group Manager.            

It will be part of the responsibilities and skills of your role for you to attend Training Courses.  From time to time, this will necessitate a change of duty

You will be required to attend meetings appropriate to the responsibilities associated with your role.  From time to time, this will necessitate a change of duty.  Annual leave, which would preclude you from attending, will not be approved following notification of the meeting date.  In exceptional circumstances, dispensation may be granted by your Group Manager.

To be eligible to apply for this post, applicants must meet the following criteria: - 

  • Be an existing Substantive Crew Manager, or;
  • have passed the Full Promotion Process (Band 1 and Band 2 candidates are eligible to apply in accordance with the current Promotion Policy).
  • In date for all operational training in line with your current service training policy
  • Have a satisfactory Personal Development Review, Appraisal or equivalent within the last year
  • Not be in possession of any formal disciplinary sanctions at the point of application
  • Not be subject to any formal development plans for performance related issues at point of application
  • Be medically fit to undertake the role of Crew Manager
  • Willing to undertake an enhanced (DBS) check
