144 holes in one day - ‘Fore’ firefighters to tackle the Longest Day Challenge

13th June 2018

The Macmillan Cancer Longest Day Challenge is a long established national golf event which raises much needed funds for such a worthy cause.

The challenge consists of playing four rounds of golf in just one day! Most rounds on a normal weekend take well over three hours. So four rounds in one day is by no means an easy task!

Rob Goodman and Paul Hillaby (from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service) along with two other Yorkshire firefighters however have decided to raise the stakes slightly.....well, a bit more than slightly!!

How about DOUBLING the challenge to complete eight rounds in one day?

On 21 June 2018 these four golf-mad Yorkshire firefighters will attempt to play competitive non-stop golf for nearly 17 hours. Play will commence at approximately 04.30 as the sun comes up and finish at dusk at approximately 21.45.

In other words, that is approximately 30 miles to cover in around 17 hours, 144 holes to play and somewhere between 600 and 750 shots per player! Each of the four players must complete every hole and record the scores. Find out about Macmillan's Longest Day Challenge here.

The event will take place at the beautiful North Yorkshire location of Aldwark Manor Golf & Spa complex. If you could make a donation to this amazing charity or would like to contribute on the day, the team would be be really grateful. The team made up of Rob Goodman and Paul Hillaby (North Yorkshire), Neil Spratt (West Yorkshire) and Pat Howdle (Humberside) is hopeful of raising fund for Macmillan.
