2nd April 2019

fire engine and ALP in front of building fireWe received a call at 08:03 to reports of a fire in an industrial premises, in Aiskew Bedale.

A number of repeat calls were then received from members of the public.

4 fire engines were mobilised to the scene, along with officers. On their arrival they requested additional fire engines (and an aerial ladder platform from Darlington) and support vehicles attend.

The fire involves a single storey industrial building. Crews are working hard to tackle the fire and prevent the fire spreading. Everyone has been accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries.

Crews are likely to be at the scene for some time.

Nearby properties may want to keep doors and windows closed.

Update 09:20

Crews have four main jets in use to tackle the fire externally.

We will be at the scene for some time.

Crews from Northallerton, Ripon, Leyburn, Bedale, Stokesley and Richmond are in attendance. Along with an aerial ladder platform from Darlington, our incident command unit, welfare unit and a high volume pump from Harrogate.

We would advise nearby properties to keep doors and windows closed, whilst crews tackle the fire.

Update 10:15

The aerial ladder platform is now in use. It is being used to allow firefighters to get access over the top of the building. The high volume pump is being set up to to help provide water to the incident.

At this time we have requested that trains do not run on the Wensleydale railway into this area as we are accessing water supplies over the railway line.

Crews are still likely to remain at the scene for some time.

We would advise nearby properties to keep doors and windows closed, whilst crews tackle the fire.

Update 10:45

Crews now have the fire surrounded. They are making good progress extinguishing it and protecting the surrounding area/buildings.

2 ground monitors, 4 jets, 3 hose reels and the ALP are in use.

They are still likely to remain at the scene for some time.

Update 12:10

The ALP is no longer in use at the incident. 2 jets are in use extinguishing hot spots inside the building.

Officers at the scene are hoping to scale the incident down in due course.

Update 1pm

We can confirm that this incident involved a fire to a building used as a gin disterilly. Crews worked incredibly hard at the scene to stop the fire spreading and to bring it under control.

We are starting to scale down the incident now, and some fire engines will be leaving the scene shortly.

We are still likely to have some crews there for most of the day.
